Glenlyon Mixed Sports Day 2022: Ready to plunge into action | The Courier

news, latest-news,

THOSE with a thirst or hunger for adventure will be back in action for the annual Glenlyon Mixed Sports Day to launch the new year. Mineral water drinking and bullboar eating world championship titles will once again be on the line, Glenlyon Sports Club has confirmed the wood chopping program will feature world champion axemen. Not to mention the popular ladies’ gumboot toss, horse racing and picnic atmosphere. Families from the district have been turning up for the mixed sports carnival every New Year’s Day since 1857 – and the sports day has managed to continue through the COVID-19 pandemic. Anyone is invited but organisers have stressed the event was strictly COVID-safe. All attendees must have proof of double vaccination, check-in with QR codes and stick to physical distancing requirements outdoors. Organisers are encouraging people to book online, via the try booking website, ahead of arriving. IN OTHER NEWS Glenlyon Mixed Sports Day raises money for the Daylesford hospital and charities and youth groups in the district. The day is run entirely by volunteers and relies on community turn-out to make a difference. Daylesford and District Municipal Brass Band and Daylesford Scottish Pipe Band will also perform through the afternoon to keep the New Year’s celebrations going. Sporting actions starts at noon.
