A lapse in our editorial rigour

On Friday 22 April, the Mail & Guardian printed an opinion piece by repeat contributor Rebone Tau titled Mkhize’s resignation exhibits ethical character uncommon amongst native leaders.

This piece spoke about how Mkhize ought to be lauded and be talked about amongst those that are moral for resigning as a minister when his identify was compromised.

However, the opinion piece fails to deal with the lengthy listing of allegations in opposition to Mkhize together with how his household and buddies benefitted from cash meant to teach and save individuals’s lives through the pandemic.

The opinion piece lauding Mkhize ought to by no means have been printed. We erred.

We have since taken the piece down.
We pleasure ourselves on contributing to constructing a greater South Africa. This opinion piece doesn’t do this. We apologise for the lapse in editorial rigour in publishing this text. We have already began an inside course of to make sure this sort of error doesn’t happen once more.
